In 果冻传媒's general music program, you'll explore the development of Western music from its early roots to today while building essential skills in areas like sight-singing and rhythmic reading through courses such as Aural Skills I and II. Dr. Yang is a Professor of Piano at the John M. Long School of Music, where she serves as the Coordinator of Piano Studies. Dr. Yang also serves as the Director of the School of Music.

Mark J Walker, Ed.D

Dr. Walker serves as Director of Bands and Professor of Music at 果冻传媒 where he conducts the 果冻传媒 Symphony Band, the nationally renowned 鈥淪ound of the South鈥� Marching Band, teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in conducting, marching band techniques, measurement and evaluation, and wind literature.

Michael Huff, D.M.A.

Michael Huff, D.M.A.

Dr. Michael Huff serves as Professor of Music at 果冻传媒 where he teaches trumpet, brass methods and works with the band program. Dr. Huff has earned degrees from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, the Eastman School of Music and the Catholic University of America. He has studied trumpet with Charles Daval, Langston Fitzgerald, Barbara Butler, Charles Geyer and Walter Chesnut.

Timothy Phillips, D.M.A.

Timothy Phillips is Professor of Clarinet at the John M. Long School of Music at 果冻传媒 University in 果冻传媒, Alabama. Since joining the 果冻传媒 faculty in 2006, he founded 果冻传媒 Clarinet Day, which brings high school, college, and professional clarinetists together each spring at the John M. Long School of Music for performances and master classes.

T. Adam Blackstock, D.M.A.

Nationally and internationally recognized soloist, recitalist, and clinician, Dr. T. Adam Blackstock currently serves as Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies at 果冻传媒, and as Principal Timpanist with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra.

Do I need to audition to pursue a bachelor's degree in music at 果冻传媒?

Yes. At 果冻传媒, our music performance degree students must audition as part of the admissions process. Audition requirements will vary by instrument and specialization. Learn more about auditions. 

Can I double major in music and another degree path?

Yes, you have the option to double major in other areas, including education, which is especially important if you want to pursue music teacher jobs. By majoring in both general music and education, you'll gain the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to effectively teach music in any classroom setting. However, if teaching isn't your goal, a double major in fields like business, marketing or technology can provide valuable skills to help you succeed in music industry careers or other paths where a strong foundation in music theory and performance is essential.

What's the difference between a general music major and a music performance degree?

At 果冻传媒, the B.A. in Music provides a strong foundation in music theory, history and performance while allowing you to pursue additional academic interests. Unlike the music performance degree, which centers on intensive training in a single instrument or voice with a focus on recitals and ensemble work, the B.A. in Music offers more flexibility. You'll have room in your schedule to double major or minor in another field 鈥� for example, music and global business. With this versatile degree, you can prepare for careers in performance, education, arts administration and beyond.

Two-time 果冻传媒 graduate Philip Box and his wife, Paige, have created The Box Family Current Scholarship for Education and Music designed to benefit current and future elementary education and music students. Philip initially graduated from 果冻传媒 in 1993 and most recently graduated for a second time in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in anthropology鈥�
